What in the world happened?

I admit I’ve been away for about four weeks, but when I tried to log in this morning I was faced with virtually noting familiar. The old drop-down menu on the top bar was gone and replaced with a little WP icon. Pressing that provided very few options which, by the way, didn’t work. I must have clicked New Post thirty or more times and still nothing.
How does one go about creating a new post now?
I also see, over on the right, my username and it also has a drop-down list. Even Sign Out won’t sign me out.
How do4s one go about signing out?

As for the forum software – how does one go about EDITING one of my own posts? Sometimes I type faster than my brain and end up with a few typos. Not being able to edit is a real handicap.

Forum Posts can’t be edited except by staff or moderators
To make a new Post – click on your name at the top right corner of the gray bar – a drop down menu will open – go down to your blog name and a second menu will open – you will have several choices – Dashboard – New Post etc.

There are still two “add new” links for posts now.
One in the new drop-down on the right hand side under our avatar/gravatar.
One in the far left column in the Posts module drop-down (Admin page).To edit your posts on your own blog do as you did previously as this has not changed. To edit your posts, go to Posts -> Posts in your dashboard menu.

As I said before in my OP, clicking ANY of the drop-down items will not work. Nothing happens.

Oh, yuk! I use Firefox with the “no Redirect” add-on. Apparently, the only way I can use the drop-downs is to turn RDR off.
Now, I am faced with a pretty much bare-bones editing area. Where are all the insert pictures or albums, change formats (text/HTML), and the rest of the buttons? Where is the ‘choose tags from past posts’ frame? If we’re stuck with this “new” format, then I vote against it (like I have a chance of changing it).
The ‘shiny new simplified admin bar’ is terrible.

I’m not sure exactly what mode I was in. I reached it by the left drop-down -> New Post link. What I got was virtually nothing but a field for a title, and box for text. There were no other links on the page, especially a “this way to a fullscreen” link.
What I managed to do was use the drop-down again, go to Dashboard, then go down those entries to the ‘New Post’ link. This time, I got my familiar editing area. I am happy to know that it does still exist.
