What is a good way to create a keyword/tag menu?
-
Is there a plugin that does this, I need a way to select all of the tags with keywords from a sidebar menu or something similar. Anything good out there?

On the wordpress.com platform, you van use the Tag Cloud Block – https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/tag-cloud-block/

Looks like a solution but thats really not what I’m looking for. Prefer a menu or sidebar.

Hi there,
It’s great to see you building your site on WordPress.com! Do you first mind confirming the URL of your WordPress.com site?
I understand how helpful it is to have an organized way for your visitors to find exactly what they are looking for through keywords. To make sure I point you toward the most effective tool, are you looking to display these tags as a simple list, a dropdown menu, or perhaps a more visual “tag cloud”?
On WordPress.com, the most direct way to do this without extra plugins is by using the Tag Cloud block. This can be placed in your sidebar or footer area and automatically displays your most-used tags. We have a guide on how to use that here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/tag-cloud-block/
If you are looking for more advanced filtering—like a sidebar where users can select multiple tags at once to filter products or posts, you might explore plugins such as “Taxonomy Terms Menu” or “Search & Filter.” You can search the plugin marketplace directly from your dashboard here: https://wordpress.com/plugins
Let’s start by trying the built-in Tag Cloud block to see if that gives you the look you’re after. If you need something more specific, feel free to let me know!

Hey there, if you are using a block theme, I think it would also be possible to use the new Terms Query block
The Terms Query block displays a list of categories, tags, or custom taxonomy terms. In this guide, you will learn how to add and customize the Terms Query block on your WordPress.com site. Thank you for the suggestion but I’m looking for a sidebar or pull down menu solution like mentioned above.

If you want a good way to create a keyword/tag menu where users can select tags from a sidebar or dropdown, there are some solid plugins and methods depending on what exactly you want simple list of tags, filters, or advanced search UI.
Simple Tag Lists / Sidebar Menus
These let you show tags (keywords) as menus, lists, or dropdowns:
- Taxonomy List Widget – displays a list of tags in the sidebar (not cloud style, but a plain list). WordPress.org
- Taxonomy Dropdown Widget – shows tags in a dropdown that users can pick from. WordPress.org
- Selective Tag Cloud Widget – more control over which tags appear and lets you choose them in admin to show specific tags in sidebar. wpSocket
These are lightweight and ideal if you just want a tag menu on the frontend users can click to view tag archives. 🔹 Advanced Filtering / Search-By-Tag UI
If you want a more powerful selector (e.g., checkboxes, filters):
- Search & Filter creates customizable search/filter forms with tags, categories, taxonomies, dropdowns, and checkboxes. Very flexible for building tag menus and filtering content on the fly. WordPress.org Corsu
Other Helpful Tools
- Iks Menu – if you want an accordion style sidebar menu that can include tags (or any taxonomy) and looks really nice visually. WordPress.org বাংলা
- TaxoPress – more about managing & organizing tags and taxonomies (including AI assistance), not exactly a sidebar menu but great for big tag systems. WordPress.org Corsu
Quick Layout Tips
- Sidebar List: Use Taxonomy List Widget or Selective Tag Cloud for a simple clickable tag menu.
- Dropdown Menu: Use Taxonomy Dropdown Widget if you prefer compact UI.
- Advanced Filters: Use Search & Filter for checkboxes / multi-select / AJAX filtering.

The plugin suggestions provided by @sekillinick1 are good. Make sure you check the plugin’s features and check if the plugin has some good reviews, a good number of sites use it, see if the plugin is supported well and is updated regularly. These are some general things to check on picking a plugin/third party theme.
Apart from this, you can even search for plugins listed here in the WordPress.org plugin repository: https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/tag+menu/
I hope this helps.
Please let us know if you have any questions or need anything else.

Hey @staff-galakate Just providing some feedback that hopefully the Terms Query block will someday include a drop down list and not only a full list. Many of us have *kof* just a few tags on our site since we are encouraged to “build our audience with tags.” :)
