what is an rss feed ?

I have looked around and have no clue of what an rss feed is. Is there a primer for what an rss feed is, how to get info from a site with one, and how to put one on my site? Do I just put any of the 5 url’s in the link below in the widget? What happens after the rss feed is set up on my blog?

It won’t really do you any good John since RSS feeds are for posts only, not for pages and your sites are virtually all pages.

I do have 1 post on each site now… progress. If I don’t need an rss feed that is fine.
A lot of people seem to be using them though, so I’d like to know what it does. If I click an rss feed on a site, does it send a summary to my email?

RSS in Plain English:

It is, as tsp said, for posts, not pages. It is only published when you publish a new post. Since you don’t publish posts, your RSS feed will never update and will not be useful for your subscribers.

No, it will open the RSS feed in your browser which will show a very simplified lists of posts with the text of the posts in it. Click on an RSS feed icon on another blog to see what you get.
This wiki article, which was on the link above will explain: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_feed

This FAQ explains how you can do it: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/put-your-feed-in-your-sidebar/ .
Do not copy and paste from the FAQ as the stuff in the faq has special characters in it to keep the code from being interpreted instead of being displayed for view.
