what is commentlist?

  Hi, I am reading a book on theme design and am a total newbie to wp themes. in the book it tells you to add a class called commentlist to the style sheet. I did this and can see the changes it creates but cannot see the class referenced in the inex.php file loop, its not there! is this a template of some sort that wp recognises behind the scenes? the book i’m using decided to leave this explanation out along with loads of other things, AAAARGH! sorry, frustrated!

  I have also noticed a few tutorials http://www.darrenhoyt.com/2007/08/18/styling-your-wordpress-comments/ & http://cdharrison.com/2008/12/10/wordpress-27-comments-style-starter-2/ that use the same class name so presuming its a common default name for something in wp?
