What Is Going On With The WordPress Editor?
-
Hi everyone!
I’m working on one of my new websites – dtpix.co
I’m having a problem in the WordPress editor I’ve never seen before.
The blocks are not lining up, or stacking correctly for text in paragraphs.
I recorded a video and posted it to Youtube because it’s difficult to explain what I’m seeing. – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9jtsNFkd7o&ab_channel=Webziine
Anyone have a clue why this is happening? I can’t publish my posts with this thing acting like that.
Thanks for your help!

Howdy –
That video is handy. Thanks so much! Can you let me know which version number of Firefox is in use there? And does this behavior continue if you try a different browser?
Have a great weekend! -
Hi Zinnia,
The current Firefox I have is 129.0.1 on the work station where I recorded the video. This was also happening on another laptop I carry with me (not sure of that version – probably the same or close to it, as I keep Firefox updated regularly).
I have not tried in another browser yet. I will try that when I get to work tonight.
Some more information I can give is that this new website at dtpix.co is using the Twenty Twenty Three theme with a customized look I gave it. I have two other websites using that theme ziine.co and oalist.co – all of these recently bought, and these all have similar theme modifications I’ve done to that theme. The other two websites are not giving me this problem in the editor that you saw in the video. Do you think there may be something I did while modifying the theme on the dtpix.co site that could be interfering with the editor somehow to make it act it is?
I will give this a try in the Vivaldi browser I have on my other laptop when I get to work this evening to see what it does.

Update: Firefox on my other laptop is on version 129.0.2 and is the latest version as far as I can tell. The version on my other laptop is 129.0.1
I’ve pretty much narrowed down to that this isn’t a browser issue that I’m having with the editor on the dtpix.co site as this issue is happening on two different laptops, the only difference in Firefox being one number away from the latest version on one of them.
I’ve recorded a 2nd video inserted below where I posted the same blog post on my ziine.co website this evening, and everything went normal.
As soon as I get a chance this evening, I will go into my Vivaldi browser and try publishing the post on dtpix.co again and see what happens in that browser.

Another update: I recorded another video while publishing the post at dtpix.co in the Vivaldi browser. This video demonstrates that the editor issue I’m having on dtpix.co happens in both Firefox and Vivaldi browsers. I can only assume this would happen in other browsers as well, and doesn’t appear to be a browser issue.
Like I already said, I have some suspicion that maybe a setting I’ve placed in a block somwhere when modifying the Twenty Twenty Three theme may be the culprit in this…. but on the flip side of that coin, I don’t see how? In modifying the theme, I’ve only used basic blocks (Group, and Columns) with necessary padding or margins as needed. I wouldn’t think that padding or margin settings within any block in the theme’s templates would effect how the editor operates… but then what do I know lol…. it is apparent that the editor is pulling in the background from the Pilgrimage style setting within the theme, so maybe the editor could be effected by something I did. I’m truly stumped on this, and hope someone else with more knowledge can help.

Another update: I compared the editor view on my ziine.co website versus the one on my dtpix.co website, and I’ve noticed a discrepancy in how they appear.

In this photo above is my editor on ziine.co – the website I am not having the problem with. Notice under “Add title”, the paragraph block is aligned to the far left of the screen. It is not that way on dtpix.co as I will show in the next photo.

In this 2nd photo above you can see my editor at dtpix.co – the website I am having the problem with. Notice how the first paragraph block under “Add title” (this is the initial paragraph block that always appears when starting a new post, is not aligned the same way as in the editor at ziine.co… It is aligned more to the center of the editor. Is that what is causing the editor to not format the blocks correctly while editing?, and what could possibly be causing the difference in the alignment there?

Just to add more mystery, the above screenshot is of the editor in my other website at oalist.co – also on the Twenty Twenty Theme, with some custom modifications, but using the default style settings (Not the Pilgrimage style setting like I’m using on ziine.co and dtpix.co – notice no green backgroun)… and the initial paragraph has the same alignment on oalist.co that dtpix.co has, BUT… I’m not having any issues with my editor at oalist.co
So what is really going on in the editor at dtpix.co ?

Another update: I’ve realized I’m actually seeing the same issue in my editor on oalist.co that I am on dtpix.co
In regards to that, I can add this info, that I customized the Twenty Twenty Three theme at oalist.co to appear the way it does currently, and then bought the dtpix.co domain, and built the Twenty Twenty Three theme based on the same structure that I did at oalist.co… with the difference being that I’m using the Pilgrimage style setting at dtpix.co….
So could it be that I did something while editing the the theme templates at oalist.co that copied over to dtpix.co, and I just didn’t notice this before at oalist.co, and now have the problem on both of these sites. It appears that way.
If that is the case, then I wonder how the theme templates effect how the editor operates? Maybe figuring that out could help me narrow down what the issue is, and why these blocks are not properly spacing themselves.

Hi there!
Thanks for the detailed explanation with screenshots.
The alignment issue and spacing issues are due to the settings on dtpix.co. I compared the settings of blocks in the Single Posts template on dtpix.co and ziine.co.
On ziine.co, the setting “Inner blocks use content width” is enabled for the Content block and the Group block that contains the Title and Featured Image. Here’s a screen recording: https://d.pr/v/wWGRxP
Please try enabling this setting and set CONTENT and WIDE value to 1200px.
Could you please try that and save the changes? I believe adjusting that setting might also help fix the spacing issue between paragraphs.
Let us know how it goes.

Hi Nigel!
Could you tell I was losing my mind over this a little bit up above? LOL
Thank you so much!! That was it. On the Content block, I turned on the “Inner blocks use content width” and placed the 1200 where needed, and I also figured out that in the Content block there is a “Block Spacing” setting that controls how the blocks space apart in the editor. I turned that on, 1 step up, and the editor seems to be functioning perfectly now. I wrote two test posts without a single problem.
I also went to my oalist.co website and corrected these settings there, and the editor is working fine there now as well it seems. These settings also corrected how my posts appear on that site. I can’t believe I published about 80 posts on that site before I realized something wasn’t right. In my defense though, those posts are mostly duplicates except for titles, categories, and tags, so I wasn’t paying close attention to it, and only noticed when I started building my photo gallery website at dtpix.co.
Anyway, I am extremely grateful that you were able to figure this issue out, and I appreciate the learning experience as well. I’ve only gotten a little bit good at building the layout structure with the Group and Columns blocks, but don’t really know how all of the blocks that actually displays post and page content works. I plan to consult the support pages more now so I can get better familiar with all of the blocks.
I now know from your help, the Content block pretty much controls how the editor is working, whereas I didn’t know that before.
You saved my photo gallery, and my local business directory, and I may as well say my personal site as well if I have this issue there at some point.
Thanks so much again for helping me resolve and understand this so that I can get back to work on these websites!
