what is happening with the formatting of my posts?

  • Unknown's avatar

for many weeks now each time i enter text from word that i have written to download the formatting changes. once on the blog poast all paragraphs go and the words end up like a stream running into each other. it takes me along time to go through the whole text to correct the spacing. it has become a bit of a nightmare.

i have there4fore begun to write it straight onto the blog and then today. as you will see on my mosr recent post titled goddess…. the formatting saved wrongly. i tried a numvber of times to change it and had no luck so in the end had to post it as it is. it looks awful and i don’t understand why this is happening. it used to be fine.

i feel so frustrated. i have loved wordpress and I find i am reluctant to write on it now. and i love writing. please help me with this???

  • I don’t see anything particularly wrong at http://livingintechnicolour.wordpress.com/

Is this the blog you’re referring to?

As for Word, it actually adds quite a bit of proprietary formatting to your post that we can’t account for, so I don’t recommend using it.

For similar (but better) experience, try Windows Live Writer instead: http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/

My error sorry. I gave you an old blog address. This is the one. On my latest post beginning ‘goddess…’ If you scroll down you will see that paragraphs have been placed together.

Also I downloaded Writer as you suggested and then when i tried to access it had no idea what it was referring to as my username and password? i don’t remeber putting one in when i downloaded and so not sure what it is refering to?
    Thanks

In the blog you mentioned, it looks like you pasted some text into the post from an external source. When pasting text into your blog, especially when pasting text from Word or other word processors, the formatting that comes with the text can interfere with the formatting of your blog.

For example, In this case, the font is larger and there is no space between paragraphs.

To work around this issue, you can use the Paste from Word tool in the toolbar – it will remove the formatting before pasting the text, so it doesn’t interfere with anything. Read more about this on the Microsoft Word support page.

To use Windows Live Writer, you will have to enter your username and password for WordPress.com – the same information you use to log into your blog.

(PS, note that while the page I linked to mentions Word in particular, this issue is not unique to Word, and you can use the same tool to clean-up pasted text from any source)

Thanks Ranh. When you say use Paste from Word tool in the toolbar. do you mean Paste on word on paste somewhere else?

Paste from Word is a button in the Visual Editor’s toolbar – it’s on the second row of buttons. You can click on the right-most button in the first row of buttons to toggle the second row.

See the Word support page for detailed instructions on using this button (again, regardless of Word).
