What is Incoming Links

  • Unknown's avatar

I have read about incoming links but I cant wrap my head around it and what i should do. Is incoming links when someone links to my blog? Or is it when a bot? does it.

When I check the links there is no link to my blog on the site so what are the links from and how do they get there. And do I have to check them when they show up on my dashboard?

Basically I want to know what should I do about them, I m confused about what is spam or not. Or am I misunderstanding what they are altogether?

Thank you for helpping me with my questions,

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Incoming Links is when someone links to your blog and sometimes it includes blogs that you’ve commented on.

You don’t need to do anything about it, though you can thank people for linking and they like that. It’s not generally spam. Sometimes you don’t see the link because they’ve linked an Image, not text. And sometimes there’s no telling why they showed up there.

Thank you as well. My dashboard is getting a lot of those and since I’ve already asked too many questions, I was going to wait until next week to ask what they are.

But that does bring up another question — if I may. I comment on a lot of blogs and I am on people’s blogroll. It’s only recently that these links are coming in — maybe only in the last few days. I’ve been commenting on different people’s blogs for a long time now and I know I am on their blogroll because I see it.

p.s. I only ask all these questions in the past month or two is because now I am getting comfortable with blogging.

Don’t worry about your question-asking pattern. It’s perfectly normal and (from a volunteer’s perspective) vastly preferable to “I registered yesterday and want to spend eight weeks getting my blog perfect before I make a post”.

And the links are showing up now because Google changed soemthing recently: Incoming Links comes from Google Blogsearch, and every now and again they fix something that’s broken.

Thanks for your help. I understand that some things can be frustrating for the volunteers that do put in a lot of time here. I, for one, am glad that the volunteers do put in the time they do. I have spent time here reading because I do pick up on things. That is how I found out about WLW which I love using. My questions are also coming up more frequently because it appears that my blog is getting more activity so I am seeing things I have not seen before. I am a first time blogger and have not yet been blogging a year. It will be a year at the end of this coming January.
