What is Jetpack?
-
Once before I asked what the difference is between WordPress and Jetpack, and was told simply that WordPress.Com includes Jetpack, which did not answer my question.
But what on earth IS Jetpack? What does it do? Where does it come in? Do you use it separately or is it something that comes in automatically? -
Hi @halilac,
yes, Jetpack comes in automatically with all wp.com plans. So you don’t have to install it, only use features it provides.
How to use it- You already use it without noticing, it is like inner gear of every wp.com website.
Jetpack is here for customizing your website by using themes, using social sharing, also it adds some speed and security.
More to read on Jetpack website. -
Thanks @maksimurasov.
@halilac if it helps, too, WordPress is free software. It has some basic features built in. If you run your own copy, you will likely need to add some themes and plugins to it.Jetpack is a plugin and services we offer, that adds over a hundred other features to WordPress. We use it automatically for all of the sites hosted here on WordPress.com.
I hope it helps.

Thank you both for your replies.
It seems (correct me if I am wrong) that Jetpack works automatically and does things automatically in WP.com and I do not need to use it consciously at all. Just like the computer language used in building up the programme, which needs to be there but I need not be conscious of it. For other users of other things they may have to instal it, but I with WP.com can forget it.
If I am right, I will close the thread as resolved.
@supernovia,
I notice that your replies are always concise and to the point, that you do not overlook anything in the query, and do not miss or misunderstand the point of the questioner, a rare combination of good qualities, which I very much appreciate. -
Yep, on WordPress.com, Jetpack is entirely automated and just represented as the already built-in features here, and you don’t need to specifically worry about it. :)
