what is my account domain name? what about the theme I purchased?

  Hi

  I’m preparing to move from wordpress.com to hostgator to be able to use wordpress.org. I have a few questions:
  – what will happen to the theme I purchased (business identity)? Will it be transferred?
  – what about my domain name – will it be transferred?
  – I need to give my provider info that I’m not sure where to find: account domain name, IP/hostname, Control Panel URL.

  I’m preparing to move from wordpress.com to hostgator to be able to use wordpress.org.

  This guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

  Your theme will not be transferred. WordPress.com themes only work on sites hosted here. However, this theme is also available for self-hosted sites. I found this link for you:

  You can either keep it here at WordPress.com, and map it to Hostgator so your domain will “point” to your self-hosted site. Or…you can transfer it. Whatever makes you happiest is doable.

  Could you tell me why they are requesting this information? I ask because these inquiries won’t help with the transfer from WordPress.com. If you’re moving from WordPress.com and want to move your content, the instructions are in the guide I linked above.

  They are requesting this information because they will do the actual transfer for me. And on the form they’re asking me to fill out, this information is required.

  Hi Muriel,

  I’m afraid that we don’t really provide the level of access which HostGator appears to be requesting. Instead, what we recommend is that users do an export of their content using this tool which we have provided:

  Export Your Website’s Content

  Using this export, all of your posts, pages, comments, and even your media can be transferred over to your new WordPress.org site. All that will be needed is for HostGator to set up any customize theme and/or plugins you may want.
