what is span style in wordpress.com blog ? – sentence/content highlighting

  Now I read the source code of that specific snippet. It shows :-

  </blockquote>

  It also shows a div class which I have no idea about. I have a blog on wordpress.com I want to use specific statements/content which I want to promote on a blog-post. this seems a good way to do it. While I understand :-

  <h3> </h3> – heading 3 – probably affects font weight and maybe BOLD ?

  <blockquote> </blockquote>

  – When quoting somebody else.

  The only thing I cannot understand/figure out is span style bit anddiv class . Can somebody share what are these and how they affect what is being shown ? I am guessing it’s either HTML or CSS at work above.
