What is the a maximum allowed image height?

I tried several times to upload a portrait format picture wide enough to appear in my front page slider. I’m using Oxygen, and the required width is 750px. Whenever I’ve tried, the image appeared in my media library with a width of 749px, regardless of how large I resized it before uploading. I tried resetting the max size in media settings but that had no effect.

I’ve been told that it is possible to use a portrait format pic as a featured image for the slider, and I’d like to know how to do this. Whenever I’ve wanted to use a portrait format as a featured image, I’ve had to make a copy and crop it, which works, but is not ideal because the proper image does not appear in the reader.

    Thanks.

Not all themes have support for flexible headers yet. Have you consulted the support docs here? http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/#flexible-headers

I’m sorry I don’t have a direct answer for you. This is all I know.

In Oxygen you can either have a Home page that displays your posts or a static front page ie. a Showcase template. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/#setting-up-a-static-front-page
Page templates can be set under the “Page Attributes” section on the page editor screen. For more information on Page Attributes:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-attributes/

    Showcase page template
When you first activate Oxygen, you’ll see your posts in a traditional blog format but if you’d like to showcase your content in an online magazine-like fashion, then you can use the Showcase Page template. …

Post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide, unless you make the post Sticky to show off in the featured slider, in which case they’re 750 pixels wide. Keep in mind: if you mark a post as Sticky but the featured image is less than 750 pixels wide, then it won’t display in the slider and will still disappear from the river of posts.

If you failed to upload and set a featured image of the correct dimensions in each post then until you do upload one into each one the gray box will be there.

Please be aware that you cannot crop the sticky post thumbnails.

Sticky post thumbnails are 750 pixels wide in the featured slider
Regular post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide

If you don’t see the page attributes module then make sure that you don’t have it hidden in your screen options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/

Thanks for responding, timethief. I’ve looked at those links before, but they doesn’t mention anything specifically about using a portrait format pic in the slider.

I didn’t think it was possible at all…I had tried unsuccessfully a few times when I first set up the slider, but someone on these boards said that it was possible. When I realized I couldn’t get a portrait format pic wider than 749px uploaded, I figured that had always been the problem.

I think I may go back and post in the thread where that poster said it possible…it may be that they know how, and haven’t seen my questions about it so far.
