what is the archive on my website?

Forgive my ignorance of the technicalities of wordpress but I am having a great deal of frustration over the issue of ‘archives’.
On my Statistics I get views on photos which are no longer posted on my website and haven’t been on there for over 2 years. On the statistics page they come under the heading archives. I click on the link provided on the stats page and sure enough it takes me to the photo, seemingly still existing in my website but not on any page I have ever knowingly created (even when I first published it), but there it is under my header and menu and everything. I try to find the same photo again but through the pages and menus on my site and it is nowhere to be found. I have trawled my site looking for any link or section which would take me to my archives but I can’t find any (when signed in or not). I have also looked at the dashboard and cannot find anyway of accessing or modifying any archive. Why is it that after I have removed something from my site it is still accessible by some mystery method that I can’t even figure out how to manage?! If I remove something from my site it generally means that I’m not interested in people being able to see it any more so why do these old things keep popping up?! As a photographer I am not interested in people seeing old work. I want them to know what I am doing currently. I can’t afford someone stumbling on these old things a potentially not looking further into my site. Please help! And explain why someone running a normal website (non blog style) would ever want or require archives?!

    thanks
    Elliot

    Elliot,
Can you give me some specific examples?

I looked up, for example, your stats for June 30th and saw three images: tynnemouth station, dsc_8971, and st-pauls-carnival3901.

All three of these images still exist in your Media Library, even though they aren’t in any pages or posts.

It is difficult to say how these were found (maybe they were linked and/or posted outside of your site?), but they were never deleted from your site.

Do you have examples of specific images that aren’t in your Media Library?

    Thanks.

Oh I see, thanks very much for clearing that up. One more thing, it now says that someone clicked a link to macy’s from my website. Do you know how this happened?

    Howdy,
You have a link to macys.com in your http://mrlowndes.com/sbcelebration/ page in the gift registry section.

Let me know if you have any more questions,
