What is the best plugin to have guest authors for my posts?

    Hi :)

    What is the best plugin to add guest authors to my posts without them having to register?

    I have numerous guest authors who wrote posts in the past and I can’t invite everyone as a contributor to the blog.

    Hi there,

    It sounds like you want the ability to let anyone contribute content to your site, without being a user on the site? There is no way to do that on WordPress.com, except perhaps with a plugin on our Business Plan. We’re not able to recommend any specific plugin for that, though.

    Try checking the WordPress plugin directory at https://wordpress.org/plugins/, and you can ask for more advice in the WordPress.org forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

    But if you have regular guest-authors on your site, the best option is to add them to your site in the Contributor or Author role (will require them to have their own WordPress.com account).

    Or else have contributors submit their posts to you via email or a contact form, and then you can post them. That way it’s open for anyone to contribute, but you still have control over what gets posted.

    If you use a plugin to open up your site to visitor-submitted content you might find yourself with a lot of spam being posted on your site, with little opportunity to approve content before it gets posted, so it’s not something I’d personally recommend.

    Thank you for replying.

    Not exactly. People send posts to an email address then the posts are published on the blog. The posts are vetted and checked and if they meet the standard they get published.

    What I would like to do is to have a custom meta field which lets me add their name to the post.

    Ah, I see what you mean. You wouldn’t be able to do this on a free plan but if you’re planning on upgrading to Business, there are some plugins that would allow you to override the author’s name, for example this one.

    For suggestions about plugins, I’d recommend you posted on the community forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

    Here, most users are on a free plan, just like you, and so they don’t use plugins on their sites.
