what is the best way to identify spammy referrers?

Like many others I have had regular referral spam recently. The way I first found out they were spammy was by clicking on them. So for some sites, now I know.
But is there any way (except common sense…) to tell who is spammy without following the link?
I know that for email spam there are blacklists kept by ISPs, and they share info about this.
Does anyone know of any site on the Internet that lists spam referrers, so I can look up without been ‘seen’?

Experience teaches best, but anything with “sex” in the name, anything ending in “.info” is a pretty good bet to be spam. Same with most .ru sites but not all.

Please report your problems with referral spam to wordpress support. And do it often. Our wordpress stats are close to useless as reported since a material percentage of blog visits haven’t been visits at all. They are simply spammer tricks. Please let wordpress know that you’d like the problem addressed.

We find the spam referrers problem just as annoying as you guys do (probably more so) and are working hard to keep them out of there for you.

Tried to use the support contact but a message came up saying support is on Hiatus until Aug 16. How do I get the word out on my bogus refferal links.

I’m sorry but there’s nothing we Volunteers answering questions can do to help you. I’m afraid gave to wait until August 16th, 2010 and then file a support ticket with Staff, unless Staff who are monitoring forum threads assist you prior to that time. -

As markel said earlier in this thread, please do report these referrer problems to us. For this week if you can just keep a list and send it into support when it re-opens that would be great. Sorry for the inconvenience.
