What is the cost to transfer a domain name?

    Hi, if I acquire my domain name through wordpress (currently free) and then transfer the domain name to a different site, what is the cost to me?

    Do you mean the following?

    1. You register a custom domain on a WordPress.com site;
    2. Move the domain to a different site.

    It’s worth noting that you would need a WordPress.com plan to be able to set the domain as the primary address on your site. You can check out the WordPress.com plans and their features and pricing, but we can help choose the right plan for you if you tell us more about the site you’re building.

    You can start with the WordPress.com Personal plan, which gives you the ability to set a custom domain as the primary address and removes ads from your site. If you upgrade to the yearly plan, you get the first year’s domain registration free.

    If you later want to move the domain to another site, you would want to move the plan as well. Otherwise, you won’t be able to set the domain as the primary address on the new site.
