What is the difference between wordpress dot com and dot org and the forum?!

i have just tried to log onto wordpress.org and i couldn’t
i used my login details but i was unable to access the site
as you can see i am logged onto the forum – only because i have a tab on it which i haven’t closed!
so what is WP.org then? not the forum?
i’m a tad confused
can’t wait for the aaaaha day when everything falls into place
a site map for beginners would be tremendous!
for putting a blog together and for the forum side
all i seem to be able to access is the blogging forum
isn’t a forum made up of all subjects other than blogging?
it would be great to see what things other than blogging are being discussed -

i do get the programmers writing stuff.
they really mustn’t let me in there as i’d inadvertently muck up years of work by removing one or two tings -
basically, if you have a blog with the url username.wordpress.com it means your blog host is wp.com. if you don’t have that, it means you downloaded the wordpress software and are using it for your self-hosted blog. wp.com is free (not counting the upgrades), wp software is free but you need to pay for hosting.
you only go to the wp.org forum if you are self-hosted. if your blog is under wp.com, you come here.

As far as I know, WP.com and WP.org doesn’t have a shared username database. So if you want to post on WP.org’s forum, you can’t use your WP.com’s username. You have to register again.

Yes, lots of people are registered at both places, but I don’t see why you would register over there. It has nothing to do with your blog.

Well, you can go take a look without signing up. Just go. You only have to have a username to post or answer questions.

if ho is my user name then the sites are connected in some username way!
i’d love to see the hardware room or rooms they have to run all these blogs and things on
and it would be nice to see what their building looks like too
i guess many of the staff work from home at their machines………which do you think is one of the top blogging blogs besides yours of course! – “state of the art, the cutting edge”
would be nice to know about it now and not in a few yrs time!
or is this an inappropriate question to be asked on a forum about blogging?
