What is the difference between wordpress hosting and using other host, like HostGator?
-
I’m a newbie, and already have a wordpress site. What I don’t understand is the webhosting matter. Many say one MUST get a webhost in addition to the wordpress services. But I notice my page is already up. Yesterday I purchaced webhosting at HostGator, asking for the same domain name and am awaiting its activation. But now it seems I don’t even need this. This is very confusing. I am at a loss.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

See the differences between WordPress.com (your http://disciplinedwonder.wordpress.com/ blog hosted by WordPress.com) and WordPress.org (your webhosting at HostGator)

Hi there,
There are two flavors of WordPress: There’s the free hosted version on WordPress.com (where we are) where the hosting is free and any upgrade costs extra and then there’s the standalone WordPress software that you set up with your own webhosting.
Perhaps reading this Support doc will help you to understand better the differences: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ and help you decide what will be better for your needs.
