What is the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org?

Just wondering if someone could explain if I need wordpress.org in addition to wordpress.com… I just recently upgraded to my own site but it’s a .com not .org, not sure if I did the right thing for what I want to do. I want to have several subscription sites with forums in them. Is the abundancemeister.com the way to go? Thanks,

    Ed

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any WordPress.COM blogs. For a subscription by registration site with a forum plugin embed you need to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up a wordpress.org install.

WordPress.org offers the opensource WordPress software for free for you to download and install on your own hosting server somewhere else.

WordPress.com is a blogging service which hosts your blog for you so there is nothing for you to install. They deal with all the tricky technical backend stuff while you get on with the business of blogging.

Having your own installed version of WordPress from WordPress.org does give some more freedom and control over what you can do with your blog, such as customizing the code or placing any kind of adverts you want, but you have to manage the technical stuff yourself.

You can still use your own domain name with a blog on WordPress.com (for a fee) which is what you appear to be doing with abundancemeister.com, just as you could if you installed the software on your own hosting server (which you’d have to pay a hosting company for anyway).

Which one you need depends on what you need to do with it and personal preferences. Chances are, WordPress.com is all you need but you can always move to your own installed version from WordPress.org at some point in the future if you ever want to.

Still not clear about it in a comfortable manner…. I just bought the premium package in wordpress.com and when I read the .org benefits they tell me I get 1 free domain but yet they offer unlimited domain names, I don’t understand, why do they mention the free domain name? Basically, seeing as I already spent the money on .com I will probably go with it for a while, but I do not like being confused about this… Can I have an email list, subscriber list in .com or not? I am thinking that I cannot, so my money has been wasted on my premium package….also, when/if I move to .org, what happens to abundancemeister.com??? do I get to transfer the name? Thanks…. Too many questions and too little time…….
