What is the green thingy on my photo in the header?

  I am new to WordPress and have set up my blog using the Independent Publisher 2 theme. I think it has something to do with the Header Gravatar
  (Enter the email address associated with your Gravatar, or Globally Recognized Avatar, to be displayed in the header.) I think it is supposed to put a graphic (avatar) on the header in that spot, but I don’t know how to either remove it or set it up.

  Hi there,

  You are correct – it is a placeholder for your avatar.

  Visit your My Profile settings and click on the avatar in the top left to set it up.
