What is the ideal size and properties of the images to make sure they appear ?

  Some of my pictures do not appear on the menu page of the blog. PLease look at dandydragon blog and you will see that some pictures are replaced by a grey square for certain posts. What is the reason for that ? What should be the ideal size of the images and properties ?
