What is the syntax for indenting a blockquote in WordPress
-
I tried
and that doesn’t seem to work. I simply want a multiple-line quotation to be indented throughout.
What is the standard/recommended way to accomplish this?
Thanks.

============= Okay, trying the question again =====================
I tried “<“blockquote”>” (without the quotemarks) in my Dashboard “Edit posts” area, and that doesn’t seem to work. I simply want a multiple-line quotation to be indented throughout.
What is the standard/recommended way to accomplish this?
Thanks.

That’s the standard way (in the html editor).
<blockquote>TEXT_HERE</blockquote>And you don’t even have to type it: you highlight the text and click the blockquote button (in either the html or the visual editor).

Here is what the HTML code would look like:
<blockquote>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Donec fermentum. Donec sem enim, sagittis vitae, vestibulum ac, dignissim at, orci. Donec quis leo.</blockquote>Or:
<blockquote>YOUR_TEXT_HERE</blockquote>Or use the visual editor. Highlight the text you want to put into the quote, and select it. Then use the blockquote tool:

Also to others who might read this, in some themes (many?) besides being indented, the blockquote has a colored background. The Quentin theme has only a very pale vertical line next to the indented text. So If you don’t like the colored background or the large quotes, etc. on some themes, it might be possible to use # 28 for a plain indent.
Is that right, Panos?

@Tess: (We usually do!)
Re #28: Yes, provided you’ve separated the paragraph with full returns first (blank lines before and after). And it will give you left indenting only. If you prefer indenting both sides, then you have to go html:
<p style="padding-left:30px;padding-right:30px;">TEXT_HERE</p>Or even:
<p align="justify" style="padding-left:30px;padding-right:30px;">TEXT_HERE</p> -
Panos. Yes.
Well. There were some complaints about one of the most recently introduced themes that the “blockquote” had “childish” graphiics with overlarge quote marks. It made that poster very disappointed in that theme. Do you remember what I’m thinking of? It’s not the new theme with the grass. I can’t find the op about that now. But I thought of him/her: could be trying the indent instead of blockquote that was their main objection…
anyway

It’s Vigilance. No I don’t remember the complaints, because I hadn’t seen them (I don’t open all threads!). So I used your suggestion (forum search via Google):

Thanks. those are what I’m remembering.
I’m still wondering, would those folks be able to use indents instead?
I’m a bit scattered right now. And my test blog is messed up. Again.
Do you think the indents would function in a similar way? -
Of course – didn’t I answer above? Indents, i.e. padding, will give you blockquote-like formatting minus the frolics.
-
Sorry. too scattered. Yes, you did.
My bad. (Panos says, “so tessie, yes i did answer.”)
