What is the web address in my account settings?
-
I don’t understand the web address on my account settings. I seem to be able to change it when I want to but don’t really know what it means as it seems to be different to my blog address.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The url for your blog dashboard should always be yourblogname.wordpress.com/wp-admin. Unless you get the domain update to remove wordpress.com from your url.
Adding wp-admin to your main url is always the admin setting.
If you are looking for your wordpress.com account settings that url when you are logged in is. http://wordpress.com/#!/settings/account/

Hi
Thanks. But how would that work if I had 2 blogs? I’m talking about the web address on the page with my username, e mail, phone no etc. The name is the same as my primary blog now but only because I overtyped the address that was in their yesterday (which was the default one when I registered- my e mail address) and saved the changes. I ask this, as I had hoped to start one with a different name and hadn’t originally known the process. I went back to the account screen as described and just entered a new address which it accepted. Only then did I get to my dashboard, find there was a new blog and then find that someone else had the address that I’d just typed in and that had been accepted. I found that blog so it definitely exists.
Sorry – feel a bit of a failure to have encountered problems practically at login!

You may have them both registered.
If you visit this link you can see all the blogs associated with your account. http://wordpress.com/#!/my-blogs/
-
No, that’s not it. I’m just hoping that whatever I’ve done is OK in the future then as there was one with my e mail address but I just overtyped it and it disappeared – it wasn’t/ isn’t in “My Blogs”.
Never mind.

How many username accounts do you have?
Which one registered the blog your cannot locate?
You must be logged in under exact same username account that registered the blog and who is the Admin of the blog to access it.
Clicking this link should display all your blogs registered under the same username, including the hidden ones: https://dashboard.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs&show=hidden
If you do not see the blog here http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/ then
follow this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/#my-blogs-dashboard-visibilityIf you have lost your log-in information you can visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
If required click the “Need More Help” link and complete the form for account recovery. -
I have only one username but haven’t “lost a blog”. The query relates to the “My account” screen. The primary blog address includes the one I set up as “Create a blog” but then the website address in the box below was originally different and was just my username.wordpress.com. As I thought this would affect my blog, I just overtyped it with the blog address and pressed save changes and so it now matches. However, it seems that no matter what I put in that box and save changes, it works – ie the other day I put (accidentally) the name of a blog that already belongs to someone else who was using a blog name I was keen to use. I spotted the problem when I went to My Blogs, couldn’t find one, tried to create it and was told the site name is already in use. I typed the address in my address bar and lo and behold a fully functioning blog being completed by someone else was there

Will you provide all specifics and details (blog URLs, titles, usernames, etc.) please. I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

hi
URLs are openearscuriousmind.wordpress.com, openearsbrightideas.wordpress.com. The titles are the same. I’m not that keen to put my username on an open message – will it be possible to send an e mail instead of posting to the forum?
I’m already subscribed to this.
-
Usernames are never private lol :D but not to worry as Staff will sort this when they can.
-
OK, well, thanks for your support. I hope it’s all alright. This is before I even start blogging…!
-
I think this may be due to the fact that you changed URLs but not to worry as I said above Staff will sort this with yout when they can.
NOTE: Staff work their way through support tickets and forum threads tagged for their attention by dealing with those that have the earliest date and timestamps first, and moving forward to deal with those that have the most recent date and time stamps. Please be patient while waiting for Staff to assist the bloggers who posted before you did.

Hi Nikki,
Both of the blogs you mentioned are linked to your account. You can view them here:
Each of these blogs is listed under My Blogs in your dashboard, and you can manage each of them from there.
On your My Account page, you can select a primary blog from the dropdown menu. You can select the blog that you most commonly use, making it easier to access its settings when interacting on WordPress.com.
The Web Address box underneath that lets you enter a site address that will be linked to your username when leaving comments on WordPress.com blogs. Entering a new address here won’t create a blog or change your primary blog or other blog addresses.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this! :)

Hi Rachel
I don’t know where the week’s gone. I read your reply immediately and am only now getting to respond! I hope it’s not too late.
I was happy with the 2 blogs being linked to my account and choosing a primary blog. Although I was a little concerned that somehow I wasn’t down as the “owner” of these as I actually wanted one. I ended up with 2 because despite following instructions to change the web address, when I hovered over these in the “my blogs” section, I wasn’t offered and option to change. So in the end, thinking I’d not be able to resolve it I just started another with the name I preferred.
However, it’s still the web address that I find a bit strange. As I mentioned before, I seem able to choose any that I want, even inadvertently choosing one that was the address of someone else’s blog which would presumably then have meant that my comments looked like they were from her. I would prefer to have something that just said what my name is rather than one tied specifically to one blog as I would ultimately like more than one – I have at least 2 quite separate ideas (though I know I shouldn’t run before I can walk!!). Do you have any tips on what should be used as the web address / are there any other implications I should consider?
Thanks again, all for your help. I am pleased to be part of the community and hope that I help someone else in the future if I become more proficient!
Nikki

Hi Nikki,
Sorry for the confusion you experienced when you tried to change your blog’s address! I’m glad you were able to get a new started with the name you preferred.
Do you have any tips on what should be used as the web address / are there any other implications I should consider?
You can choose any web address you want, but keep in mind that your username will be linked to this address when you leave comments on other blogs. It’s common to link to your primary blog’s address here. This is optional, though, so you can leave this box blank and your comments will just have your name next to them, without a link to any blog or website.
You can also read more about this under Website here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/personal-settings/#account-details
I hope that clear things up, but please let me know if you’d like more help with this. :)
