What is “Top Searches” (really) on the dashboard?

  I wondered what “Top Searches” is on the dashboard view. I found three threats in the forums (type in “top searches” in the support site search box) but each had a different explanation.
  So is it:
  a) search terms entered into the top right box that is labeled “Search WordPress.com Blogs” and that led visitors to my blog?
  b) web search terms (e.g. Google, Yahoo!, bing etc) that led vistors to my blog?
  c) something else?

  It is B. But not all search engines are counted; we aren’t sure which ones are, except that Google definitely is.
