WHAT IS WORDPRESS’ PROBLEM WITH PRIVACY??!!?

This is what i want. I want a place that i can write my thoughts down no matter if i am away from my computer, but a centralised place for it all to go to. So provided i have internet access i can add to it. I can access it at work, or when im out and about when i get a smartphone. I thought if i have a blog and set it to private that would meet my exact needs. However I want only ME to be able to read it. I appreciate that anything on the internet isnt going to be 100% safe but its is safe enough because the chances of it happening are quite small i would have thought. However I dont think WordPress themselves take privacy seriously. They say that WordPress staff are able to read your private blog. But even the current privacy options are pretty casual. The maximum type of privacy is “only let people you choose to be able to read our blog” or words to that effect. They havent put a “NO ONE BUT YOU CAN ACCESS YOUR BLOG”, your still detectable if you post in the forums. There really needs to be COMPLETE TOTAL CUT OFF PRIVACY. But there simpl isnt. I am so impressed by the wordpress interface, i consider it the best on the market. And yet i dont use it because it does not meet my needs.

WHAT IS WORDPRESS’ PROBLEM WITH PRIVACY??!!? Just make it SUPREMELY PRIVATE!! Whats so difficult about doing that???

    Now they say

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

*ignore “Now they say” i was meant to delete that.

quick question: Would using a self hosted wordpress solve this problem??

    Hello there,

There’s no need to be upset. Obviously if you don’t provide anyone else the URL of a blog you have set to “private” then there is no privacy issue.

Frankly I don’t think there is a problem. I think you need to breathe deeply an few times and comprehend the logic. No one can locate your “private” blog or even know it exists if you don’t reveal any information about it, and they cannot read it if you do not reveal the URL for it. Also note that blog visibility ie. privacy stetting are the same on both wordpress.ORG installs and wordpress.COM blogs.

@dd3dd, as timethief mentions, as long as you don’t intentionally add anyone to the private list–the private option is exactly what you’re looking for.

It’s true that WP.com staff are able to see inside a private blog, but it is unlikely anyone will do so (unless you’re breaking the Terms of Service or something).

I’m not entirely sure your reasoning for making a site at all. Might I suggest writing in a paper journal, or Microsoft Word instead?

Ahh timethief. Didnt know you posted so much on WP forum. Well in previous threads youve smuggly made out that you know quite a lot about my internet activities. So i could ask are you trying to lure me into a false sense of security by telling me not to get upset and that no one will access your private blog…………………………

DW i dont have full confidence that you could, but anyway this isnt about you its about WP and their obvious failings. At the end of the day i have to ask myself simply “Should i risk it??”

    mhmmm what about hackers???

As archivecrawl mentions, you might want to consider something offline for best security. Our private option will work well for you if you do not add anyone to the site and do not give out the URL at all.

I am closing this thread as the options have been explained.
