What is wrong with Media Library image loading? — recent problem.
-
Since Nov. 27, 2014, I have been having a problem loading images to my media Library. Normally, they load very fast — I limit my longest side to 500 dpi — but for the past week, the image doesn’t finish loading until I close the media library window, click the Save Draft button, and return to the media library window. At that point, the image is ready to insert into my post. This wastes an enormous amount of time. How can we fix this?

Do you mean the media library window at the Edit Post > Insert Media module? If so, uploading files requires you to select “Upload Files,” which automatically closes the media library window by default.
So I presume you’re referring to uploading an image from the media library to the post. Correct?
I haven’t experienced this issue on my own WordPress.com websites, nor seen any recent reports of the same in the support forum. How is your internet connection? Your connection speed?
Assuming your PC is operating well and your internet connectivity and speed are sufficient, I would recommend trying at least the following steps initially:
1. Clear your browser.
2. Turn off your PC and reboot if 1. didn’t help.
3. Update your browser to the most recent version frequently, or allow it to be done automatically.
4. Choose one of the browser recommended by WordPress in the Browsers support page. -
@If you are not successful post again to let us know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/
Then type modlook into the sidebar tags of this thread for Staff assistance and subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. -

Thanks. No, I do not have a problem uploading images to my blog. I have had a problem uploading images to my Media Library for the last week. The Media Library screen says “uploading,” but the progress bar doesn’t move at all. However, if I close the media library screen and return to my draft, click on Save Draft, then immediately go back to Media Library, the image has loaded, and can be inserted into the post as easily as ever. I have cleared my browser. I have rebooted the pc twice.
I am posting from the same Toshiba laptop (Windows Vista) I have
always used for WordPress. I have Broadband AT&T Uverse and
connect through a wireless router and my home network. My signal is rated “very good.” My browser is Internet Explorer 9. I use McAfee security and I do have my Internet Explorer pop-up blocker turned on. I’ve posted about 150 times and never had a problem before last week.
I have restarted my computer per instructions.
Our internet service was very slow over the Thanksgiving holiday, but
we attributed this to the online sales frenzy. That is also when this
problem with loading images to my media library began. I have two
wordpress blogs, and both are affected.
I should also say that when I click on “improved posting experience,”
nothing seems to happen. I get the familiar posting screen — complete with a live option to click on “Improved posting experience.” The only difference I have noticed is a new pop-up when I click on an image within my draft post. It’s possible that this problem began after the first time I clicked on “improved posting experience” — I really don’t know, since it seemed to make no difference at the time. Thanks for taking the time to offer advice — it’s appreciated. -

Hi @witness2fashion –
My browser is Internet Explorer 9
Just to test this, could you try using another browser like Chrome to see if you experience the same issue there?
-
I have had the same problem with Add Media for the past few days. It is very irritating.
I use a desk top PC, Windows 7, Internet Explorer.
I press Add Media. Then, Upload Files. Then Select Files. Click on Pictures. Click on Insert Into Post.
But, there is no picture inserted into my post!!!

According to your link, I use Internet Explorer 11.
I checked the post I scheduled for tomorrow, and noticed that the photo I chose is now inserted.
So, it does work — but only after repeated attempts and very slowly. -

@witness2fashion,

You said,

Your media library is part of your blog, or website. However, some folks refer to a post as a blog. Perhaps that’s what you have done here.
The Media Library screen says “uploading,” but the progress bar doesn’t move at all. However, if I close the media library screen and return to my draft, click on Save Draft, then immediately go back to Media Library, the image has loaded, and can be inserted into the post as easily as ever.
You can upload images directly to the media library, at media library Add New (also titled Upload New Media), or at a post or page editor at Add Media. You might want to try each of these methods to see if one might work better for you.

Sorry for my vocabulary (“post/blog”) ignorance.
Here’s what been happening lately: I am writing a post. I click “Add Media.” I click “Upload Files.” I choose file to upload, open it , and click upload.
My Media Library screen appears, and the box on the far left is outlined in blue and has a check mark and progress bar. The screen says “Uploading.” But the progress bar does not move.
I close the Media Library screen and click “Save Draft” on my post -writing screen. I scroll down again and put the cursor where I want the image to appear (because I know it will work this time).
I open Media Library and my image (never more than 500 dpi on the longest side) will have finished loading. I write the caption, I click “Insert Image,” and it works.
I repeat, for over a week I have had “a problem uploading images to my Media Library.” They won’t finish loading to the Media Library until I return to my draft and click “Save Draft.” Before this problem, my images loaded to Media library in a few seconds, while I watched.
As to using Chrome, I don’t want to. I don’t use the Cloud. I could try posting from a computer that has Firefox, but of course, that computer doesn’t have any of my blog images on it. I’ll give it a try with a flashdrive. However, I do not want to install Firefox, because my husband recently had many problems with it. (I will not put a flashdrive that has been in my husband’s computer back into my computer — that’s how bad it was.)
If the problem is not related to trying the “improved posting experience,” perhaps an automatic Microsoft upload/update is interfering with my — and other people’s — ability to post as easily and quickly as I did for my previous 140+ posts.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. And it’s a relief to see I’m not the only one with this problem. -
witness2fashion,
I have cleared my browser. I have rebooted the pc twice.
I am posting from the same Toshiba laptop (Windows Vista) I have
always used for WordPress. I have Broadband AT&T Uverse and
connect through a wireless router and my home network. My signal is rated “very good.” My browser is Internet Explorer 9.1. cleared browser — check
2. rebooted twice — check
3. Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista — check
4. Broadband AT&T Uverse, wireless router, home network — check, check, check
5. very good signal — check
6. browser: Internet Explorer 9 — red flagInternet Explorer 9 came out in 2011. Version 11 came out in October 2013. Google dropped support for IE9 shortly after the release of IE11. That wouldn’t necessarily affect WordPress support, but it’s a hint to move on to a newer version. The WordPress Browser Issues support page says,
We recommend that you use either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome for optimal performance with WordPress.com.
A note about Internet Explorer: Due to browser incompatibility, some themes are not fully functional in Internet Explorer 8 or earlier. If you are using Internet Explorer 8 or below we recommend upgrading your browser for an optimal experience.
However, that support page itself might need updating.
I should also say that when I click on “improved posting experience,”
nothing seems to happen. I get the familiar posting screen — complete with a live option to click on “Improved posting experience.”The failure of this and/or other WordPress features to be activated when prompted could be a sign that your browser version is no longer completely supported by WP. The “improved posting experience” presents on very different screen, with a blue background, different sidebar, and of course entering it is preceded by the infamous dancing boop boop boop balls.

Thank you so much, Musicdoc1. That may explain why Explorer did not update automatically to 10 and then 11. And why MicroSoft is not well-loved by many of us.
