What is wrong with my mx records for mail for my site at katherineharms.com?
-
I thought my mx records for email for my domain were supposed to look like this:
MX 10 MAIL1.STARTLOGIC.COM.
MX 30 MAIL2.STARTLOGIC.COM.
TXT v=spf1 include:mail.startlogic.com ~all
But my mail still doesn’t work. What is wrong? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Startlogic recommended some new forms for my records. Here is the result.
(1) MX: 20 mx-mg.startlogic.com
(2) MX: 30 mx-mg.startlogic.com
(3) TXT: v=spf1 ip4:66.96.128.0/18 ?all
(4) CNAME: host: lkharmsc.startlogic.com
(5) A: lkharqwewems.com > 66.96.134.46
(6) A: webmail > 66.96.130.235
(7) SRV: _autodiscover._tcp > 100 0 443 exch1.myoutlookonline.com1. This does not match any of the DNS record formats.
2. This does not match any of the DNS record formats.
3. This does not match any of the DNS record formats.

I’m still struggling with the formats. I now have four successful record entries for DNS records:
CNAME autodiscover EXCHANGE.STARTLOGIC.COM.
MX 10 MAIL1.STARTLOGIC.COM.
MX 30 MAIL2.STARTLOGIC.COM.
TXT v=spf1 include:mail.startlogic.com ~allWill these records do the job, or do I need something more?
-
After a lot of looking around, I changed the records again.
CNAME autodiscover POP.STARTLOGIC.COM
MX 10 NS1.STARTLOGIC.COM
MX 30 NS2.STARTLOGIC.COM
TXT v=spf1 include:mail.startlogic.com ~allIs this the right change?

Hi there,
I see that you’ve made some additional changes to your domain’s mx records since your last message. I’d be happy to help you get the formatting for these records right, but first I need to know exactly what information your email service provider gave you. Can you copy and paste the records they told you to use? I can use that information to enter the records on this end.

Oh, wonderful. Yes, I do keep changing them each time Startlogic gives me new information. Here is the latest instruction:
The MX of the domain must point to ‘mx-mg.startlogic.com’, but currently, it’s pointing to the incorrect records. i.e, ‘NS1.STARTLOGIC.com’ and ‘NS2.STARTLOGIC.com’ . The nameservers of the domain is pointing to WordPress(external sever). So, the DNS record of this domain is not managed with us and its not possible for us to update the DNS record. Please contact the current DNS provider(WordPress) of the domain and ask them to point the MX record to ‘mx-mg.startlogic.com’ with priority 10 and A record to 66.96.134.46. Let us know if you have any issues.
I changed the nameserver as instructed (you probably saw that) and I attempted to enter the A record, even though I have told them repeatedly that WordPress won’t accept it. I have let them know that the A record did not validate.
I am eager for any help you can give me. I will not be able to look at your response until late this afternoon, but I very much appreciate your help, and I will do whatever you think I need to do to get this problem fixed.
Thank you -

Hi there,
You entered the MX record correctly, and I added the A record pointing the subdomain webmail to 66.96.134.46. Please note that when you make changes to your email records like this, it can take a few hours for your email to begin working properly.
If it still doesn’t work for you, can you ask Startlogic for the full set of records needed to set up your email?

Thank you for your help.
Startlogic responded to my last statement that the IP address was unacceptable, and it is the first time they have given me a CNAME option. I had entered “CNAME autodiscover POP.STARTLOGIC.COM.” Startlogic says,
“The ‘mx.katherineharms.com’ should point to ‘mx-mg.startlogic.com’ (priority 30). If you are adding another MX entry, add the same with priority 10 or 20.
If WordPress not permiting an A record with an IP address, then you can create a CNAME pointing to: lkharmsc.startlogic.com”
After all my confusion, I don’t want to change anything more until you tell me what will be acceptable.
I will be abel to check back frequently today, so if you tell me anything, I can respond quickly.
Thank you very much. -

Here is the set of records Startlogic recommended at one point:
MX: 20 mx-mg.startlogic.com
MX: 30 mx-mg.startlogic.com
TXT: v=spf1 ip4:66.96.128.0/18 ?all
CNAME: host: lkharmsc.startlogic.com
A: lkharqwewems.com > 66.96.134.46
A: webmail > 66.96.130.235
SRV: _autodiscover._tcp > 100 0 443 exch1.myoutlookonline.comI tried to enter them, but they all failed validation. Now that I have learned more about the record formats, I believe I probably should have removed the colon in the lines above, but I won’t do anything until you tell me what WordPress wants.
Thanks, -
Hi there,
Thank you for that information. I just entered the set of records you provided in your last message, so hopefully you’re all set! If Startlogic lets you know about any issues with these records, please let me know and I can keep working on this for you. :)
-
Oh, thank you so very much. I will be watching for success. I assume I still need to wait a while for propagation, but I am hopeful to see success in the next 24-48 hours.
Thank you for your help! -

You’re very welcome! I’m so glad it’s working now. Thanks for sticking with me while we sorted out those records. :)
