What kind of links can I insert into my blog posts ?

what type of links can i insert into my blog ? I have written a blog post and would like to include a link with it to an article that appears on various other sites on the net (don’t mind which one, any one of them would do, they all more or less say the same thing which is basically some facts that backs up and supports the info that I’m putting out in layman’s terms in my blog). Only thing is when you click on the link it says that the web page is not available. Initially I was trying to link it to a news article on Yahoo but that had a video on it so presume that was why it was a no go, and have since been advised that WordPress doesn’t support Yahoo. So, I tried again – this time to the BBC news website, different article – same topic – no joy. I tried an NHS information website that also featured an article with facts on the same topic – no luck. Sorry, am not getting this – have searched the support docs and looked at all the stuff on links. My simple question is: Within a blog post what kind of things on the internet can I insert as links into my text ? I am a beginner at this so am wondering if maybe I’m missing something fundamental here and would greatly appreciate some simple advice – many thanks :)
