What makes the page where the blog shows up so special?

How come the page where my posts show up is not updating when I edit it — add a photo, change the layout, etc — when all of the other pages are updating properly? FYI, my Home page is static, and I’ve moved my blog page to a different page …

    Sorry …. I’m a newbie ….

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    The blog page is “News”

You only have one post with no photos. That is a dynamic page that aggregates all your blog posts, so make more posts. If you want to put an image in there, put it in a post.

Thank you for your reply. I wasn’t clear: On the Edit page for the “News” page, I have uploaded a photo and specified it as the Featured Image that displays at the top of the page, and I have changed the template from “Default Template” to “On Column, No Sidebar,” but when I click the blue “Update” button on the Edit page, those changes are not reflected when I view the “News” page again. I am certain I have the two settings specified properly on the Edit page, because it has worked on every other page on my blog (those maple leaf images are mine), and the sidebar is gone on every page but the “News” page.

In other words, when I change the settings on the Edit page for “News”, the changes I make show up properly on the Edit page (and are still there), but don’t actually show up when the “News” page itself is viewed even after the “Update” button is clicked.

    Does that make sense?

    Thanks again for your patience.

That’s a Theme issue, so I’m going to flag this to be moved to the Themes forum.

    Not a theme issue.
Featured images and templates apply to static pages. But when you set a page as your posts page, you no longer see the original page, you simply borrow its title to create the link in the top menu. This link links to the dynamic page that displays your latest posts, and this dynamic page can only display the header image you have uploaded in Appearance > Header.

Perfect. Just changed the header; thank you SO much for the help!

Now, is there a way to get rid of the sidebar on the dynamic post page (“News”) page and have it only display one column?

No, that’s not possible on Twenty Ten (except if you had the Custom Design upgrade): you need a different theme. For a partial list see this post of mine (under “Sidebar optional” and “Bottom and/or header only”):

Sidebars and other widget areas: number and position
