What means the W icon ?
-
I can see a W buttom (icon) on the grey bar with the menus
Pressing it would produce Global Dashboard but there are exceptions, it sometimes show a blog post or page
I feel perplexed what it shows or what it the point. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Wherever you happen to be, in the forums or on your own blog or on another wordpress.COM blog, clicking the icon between “my subscriptions” and “blog info” will always take you to the “home” page of the site you happen to be on. It is simply a shortcut. If you are in this thread and click the W then it takes you to the main forum page. If you are on your about page on your blog and click it it will take you to your main blog page. If you are on my about page on my blog, then it will take you to my home page. If you are on the main wordpress site “features” page and click it it will take you back to the main wordpress.com landing page.

I ve been experimenting with this W. It is not possible to predict where the W will take me. Therefore it is only one mor confusing trick of WP
-
…if you click into one of your posts, then click on the “W”, you will end up back on your homepage. If you click on one of my posts, then click on the “W”, you will end up on my homepage.
-
I did that but the question is “can I predict which is the homepage”
In order to do that, i need to look at the adress bar.
F ex the adress here is https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/what-means-the-w-icon?replies=5; I presume that the home page
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic
Or perhaps https://en.forums.wordpress.com/https://en.forums.wordpress.com/
Or perhpas https://en.forums.wordpress.com/
It is the last one ! this is what I mean: “difficult to predict” -
As you can see: I appear both as Stenbocken and Justicewatcher.
It is really messy. It should not be possible. -
@stenbocken and/or justicewatcher: I suggest you contact staff directly to have your dashboard issues taken care of. We volunteers cannot change the fact that, somehow, you have two different usernames.
-
-
I have two different emails at work.
Replying any question on https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/questions
I will appear with my User Id, the one I am logged in at the momentThe problem is that I never know what User Id I am logged in as.
WP does not make it easy to see AT A GLANCE. You have to klick arround and now I am so tired after all the clicks so I have to sleep -
You have two different gravatars, the dark blue one for stenboken and a light blue one for justice. In the left end of the grey admin bar, it will show the gravatar of the account/email you are currently logged in under. That is one way to tell and I’m afraid for right now the only way to tell.
-
OK. This is exactly the situation. I have to remmember thus: the blue and the dark. Which is which. I have thus to remmember the User Id, the Author Name and now the colors. Who said this: why make it simple when you can do it complicated and hokus pokus, people will be impressed ?
-
I gave you a way to tell which username you are signed in under. I don’t care if you don’t like the solution I suggested. It is your only solution right now.
Contact staff with all your complaints. Perhaps they will implement some of your suggestions.
-
I think staff has seen all this intensive discussion here. I think they don’t give a dam either
-
This is a peer-to-peer forum for the most part. But as airodyssey said above,
Only they can help you solve this problem.
-
I did contact Support. They suggested to upload pictures for Gravatar and watch what happens to the icon on the left side of the Menu Bar.
I did so but nothing happened on the Menu bar.
I tried with both my User Id:s and after many attempts (hours) , I saw an update of the Stenbocken but not on Justicewatcher.
It should update on this site too, but it does not.
I will try again tomorrow
I will not publish anything until WP keeps on trickiing me -
Log out, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then have another go. It could be that your browser is pulling cached images for the gravatars.
-
It did not help with your suggestion ;but now it works; what I did was to upgrade IE8 to IE9 beta, It has some novelties
