What now?
-
Okay so I downloaded a wordpress layout from a random website.
I tried to open it but I don’t have any programs to open it with. Was I supposed to open it?
How can I get it onto my blog?
Its just staying as a zipped file. -
We don’t use downloaded themes at wordpress.com (the free service), just the themes available from Presentation in your dashboard.
If you are wordpress. org (self-hosted) then you need to be at http://wordpress.org/support

From my experience, you need to upload all the files into the folder wp-content, which should be a sub-folder of wherever your blog is located (example: http://www.mydomain.com/myblog). But that’s from very limited experience, ‘cos 99% of my blogging is on wp.com.
(see timethief’s comment below; I should have said that this advice only works if you’re self-hosting, not if you’re a wp.com user)

If this is your blog and it is the one you are referring to then please note what ellaella has said. At wordpress.com our theme selection is limited to those you find here -> Presentation -> Themes. The one you have downloaded is for wordpress.org software. It’s different software from the software we have here (wordpress multiuser) and you cannot use it unless you move to self hosting a blog on your own server or you hire a web host.
