What package to upgrade to

    Have have 2 free websites on wordpress.com at the moment. My serious income at katrinasummerfield.wordpress.com for my virtual assistant business and katrinasummerfielddesigns.wordpress.com for my creative work and digital downloads.

    I want to upgrade to get a domain name and to apply SEO to my serious website so I can improve in the google ranks. But I also want to take payments on my digital site and have automatic downloads for some passive income. If I upgrade will I be able to do this on both sites or do I need to merge the sites?

    No, you don’t need to merge the sites. Each of our plan upgrades is good for one site. Those and their features can be compared via https://wordpress.com/pricing/

    To add a custom domain to your serious website there will be a requirement that you upgrade from a free to a paid plan. There are some other tips about SEO in these guides:

    Taking payments on your digital site doesn’t require an upgrade. You can do that through a contact form, or even a PayPal button.

    With the contact form, you’d request that folks contact you directly, then you could email them the download and collect their payment through PayPal or Stripe or something.

    The PayPal button can be added directly to your site. Here’s how you set that up:

    Thanks that has been brilliant.

    I have the digital downloads page where they email me direct already. I think the Paypal button only works with premium or business plans.

    The reason I asked about merging the sites is that I would have a domain name so I would hope to increase in rankings for my serious site, if my digital downloads site still is with a free wordpress.com address it will be lost in google rankings.

    If you still wanted to keep the sites separate while still using a domain, you could actually map a subdomain to the downloads site if you’d like:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/ Because it’s a subdomain the site can remain as a separate site.

    Of course you’re welcome to merge the sites too if you prefer. If you need help finding how to do that, let us know.
