What payment-information is stored (eventually reported to authorities)?

  I’m planning to purchase a private-domain-registration. If I pay by credit card, and some third party gets a look on my credit card billing, what would they see?
  a) Only that I paid a certain amount to WordPress?
  b) additionally that I paid for a (private) domain (without name of given domain)
  c) or would they see the whole package, including domain name, and therefore the whole “private registration” would be flawed?

  Clearly it would depend on where the third party is accessing the information. The credit card company would have each itemized purchase, including domain name. It’s not clear that the domain registrar would.

  All of WordPress.com’s transactions are processed through Paypal. This means that:

  * Anyone with access to your Paypal records will be able to see the date, time, and balance of the domain purchase transactions, as well as the name of the domain name you purchased.
  * Anyone with access to your WordPress.com account will be able to see the domain name you purchased
  * Anyone with access to your credit card statement will see that you made a payment to WordPress.com, but will not be able to obtain any specific information regarding the transaction. The line on the statement includes a reference to WP-FEE.com and a transaction number only.

  WordPress.com and Paypal will never turn over any payment details or other account information without the receipt of a valid court order requiring us to do so.

  Private domain registration prevents individuals from gaining access to your personal information using a Whois lookup tool like who.is. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) does not allow for fully anonymous domain registrations, however, your information would not be available to the general public.
