What plan am I currently on? Can I add a domain I’m already paying for elsewhere?

I have had this website for years and thought I was paying $48/month to remove ads from it. However, my account seems to show me with no plan and not paying anything annually, from what I can see. I want to start a plan and move my domain (www.circus.dog) from NameCheap to WordPress ASAP before my next NameCheap billing cycle begins next week. Can you please let me know if I have a paid plan and what type? And how to add the domain? If I go to ‘Upgrade’ it acts like I have no plan, but don’t want to sign up again if I’m already paying for a plan. I wish I could just talk to a real person and ‘give them my money’ but can’t find any way to get support other than on this public forum. :-(

Hi, you can add your custom domain if you are on Personal plan or greater. Basically, the basic paid plan is the Personal plan. So be happy you can do that. just refer THIS

feel free to comment down as I can help you in this regard.

  • Hello there,

It looks like circusdogblog.wordpress.com is on the free plan, meaning there’s no plan currently in place.

Once a plan is purchased, you would be able to transfer the domain as per these instructions here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

    I hope this helps.

Thank you ajithnow and aleone89 for your help.

You’re right, I wasn’t on a plan like I thought. I had a different WordPress site that used the $48/year plan, not my circus dog website. I was able to follow the domain transfer instructions above and unlocked it at NameCheap. But WordPress says the domain (“circus.dog”) is not an acceptable TLD, even though the acceptable TLD list includes “.dog”. Oh well, guess I’ll have to stay with the status quo.

Thanks again for your help though.

  • Have you thought about mapping the domain? I checked circus.dog and it said it’s already registered (by you). If you own a domain, you can map it here. If that was giving you some trouble, let us know.

Transfers are a bit more complex, but it looks like your domain should be eligible, so long as it’s been registered long enough (usually 60+ days).

Thanks Supernovia. I own the current domain through NameCheap and it redirects to my WordPress site. However, it’s very flaky on some browsers and you can type in http://www.circus.dog and get a blank page, 404 error, etc. Potential customers will assume I have no site rather than refresh the 2-3 times it takes on some browsers. On other browsers, it redirects quickly.

I thought it would be easier to just have the domain administered through WordPress, and hopefully that would get rid of the redirect issue. It says it allows the .dog URL and I’ve had the http://www.circus.dog domain for 4+ years, but when I released it on NameCheap and tried to get it through WordPress, it claimed it was a disallowed extension (the “.dog” part; even though their list says it’s allowed). So I gave up.

  • No need to give up. You can add it with a domain connection (which works way better than the redirect). Then we can work on the transfer issue as well, though the domain will work the same with the connection/mapping as it would if it were transferred here. The only difference would be who you pay for the domain, and where you manage its settings.

Let us know if you decide to try again and we’ll do what we can to help.
