What plan should I upgrade to?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am looking for a plan that allows me to write posts advertising my store (which is on another site) and digital piano teaching related products I launch there. I also wish to use this as a website for my piano teaching studio. And have a menu link for my store. My business is very small right now, so I’m looking for a plan with the lowest budget that allows this. I understand that on my existing free plan, I cannot write posts advertising my products, or use my blog as a platform to link to my store? Please clarify and let me know the appropriate plan. Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi,

I believe the Free plan is sufficient for your needs. As far as your business goes, you just won’t be able to add advertising to your site. However, this doesn’t stop you from blogging (writing posts) about your products. You can also insert links to your store.

If you have any questions, let me know

  • Hi again,

After looking into it further, I found that if your blog’s primary purpose is merely to send traffic to your store, then WordPress.com will not allow that.

You may want to upgrade to the WordPress.com Premium plan so you can set up advertising on your site. Please read the following article for more information: https://en.support.wordpress.com/monetize-your-site/#affiliate

    Hope this helps

Thanks. I’ve read the article on monetising. The article does not say whether a premium plan be ok for my purposes or whether I need the business plan. The premium plan fits in my budget, but the business plan does not. Am hoping I can get some clarification from wordpress before I actually switch.

  • Hi,

What you can do is sell your products on your site using your PayPal account.

For more information on setting up a PayPal button or link in your content, please refer to this step by step guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/

Other than that, WordPress.com is really not designed for e-commerce. You would do better setting up a WooCommerce site.

I am going to add the tag “modlook” to this thread to alert staff to get back to you. They’ll give you advice on the best way forward.

    Best regards

  • Hi @aekohli, and thanks for flagging us, staff-frank .

It kind of sounds like your articles won’t actually require any e-commerce software. They’re just referencing another site, is that right?

If so, you don’t really need any particular plan to do that — maybe just get the plan so you can map a subdomain. And the Premium plan gives you lots of control over the look and feel with CSS, so you can make it match your other site.

What you do need to be wary of is our TOS: your site shouldn’t exist primarily to drive traffic elsewhere. If it’s a blog for your business, you’ll likely be fine.

  • Thanks for the clarification, @supernovia!
