What Search Engine is Being Used to Find Me

  • Unknown's avatar

I have nothing posted right now but am showing several views over the last few days. The searches are on my username under “Search Terms”. I’m wondering how people are finding my site and where they searching from. Is it possible to know what search engine these searches are coming from?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

link your website please so we can assist you.

Also > How to link your name to your blog

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok…I think I’ve done it right.

Is this the correct link http://inkvoice.wordpress.com/ because
I get not found when I click your name. Also did you delete the
default post. because that will explain the 404 not found code.

Google crawls everything and because you don’t have any
posts it’s possible that Google indexed your user name.

I did a search for “teck07” and a bunch of things came up
    as a search result.

The link goes to a blog with no posts. not a 404 code.

Right…I have nothing posted but on my Stats page, under the section that shows “Search Terms”, I’m seeing that there have been several searches on my user name. I just want to know if there is any way to find out what search engine these are coming from.

Here is a really good one: I started my blog about 4 or 5 days ago, and I have two posts so far. Today I get a search result: “grève la réunion”!?! !!!

Not only is there no such term on my entire meager little blog, I do not even know any French to have been able to write this! What does it mean even? So, I did an advanced search on google and yahoo and had them search my domain. Of course they said, no such result found. What else could they have said?

How did this happen? Is this happening to others as well? That you get really really bizarre search results? Or is it just little old me?

  • Unknown's avatar

I haven’t gotten anything bizzare like that. How random? Did you find out what it means in French?

I guess I’ll just assume that these searches are coming from Google?

    truthhurts1,

Can you tell us why it matters to you where the searches are from?

I’ve got a test blog, that I keep mostly private, but even in the few minutes/hours that it is sometimes public, it gets a hit or two. Wherever those little hits come from, it seems random and pointless to me to worry about them. My test blog has lots of posts on it, and yours, so far, seems to be still blank.

  • Unknown's avatar

No. I can’t tell you why. I’d just like to know. The fact that it seems random and pointless to you, doesn’t mean it’s random and pointless to me, though. Thanks for your concern.

I am assuming that réunion means reunion and grève I believe means strike, as in a worker’s strike. So, not only is the term not on my page but it doesn’t even seem to be making much sense in French.

I did contact the wordpress team via the contact support page and they responded that probably the person had found the query on another page to which my blog had been linked to and had accessed my page from there. An explanation which doesn’t really make too much sense under the circumstances: My blog is brand new, I have not even had a total of 10 viewings to date and already people are linking to me? Come on!

    It is indeed a mystery…

I thought this was a simple question. Didn’t come here to have my motives questioned or be told that my questions was pointless. I just wanted an answer. I’ll just go ahead and assume that unless the search terms say the search came from somewhere other than google…then the search came from google.

  • Unknown's avatar

That’s not very accurate; the other search engines are still quite popular. But no, there’s no particular way to sift them out unless you can see them specifically under Referrers.

By the way, it’s not unusual for brand-new WP.com blogs to show up on searches. I’ve seen several blogs show up as #1 on Google for various search terms within four hours of being created. WordPress.com blogs have a LOT of search engine juice.

Thank you, raincoaster. I appreciate the info.
