What Size USB Drive for WordPress Dev Setup on Windows 11?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi all,

I’m setting up a new Windows 11 machine for WordPress development and wondering what size USB drive I need for the installation. I’ll also be using it for local dev environments (like LocalWP or XAMPP). Any recommendations?

I found a helpful guide on flash drive sizes for Windows 11 installation, which might be useful What Size Flash Drive Do I Need for Windows 11?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Your question is about the self hosted version of WordPress.

These forums are for the fully hosted version (WordPress.com). Heres a link explaining this a bit more: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

You’ll be better off asking your question on the WordPress.org forums: https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting/

Thanks for your recommendation. Considering the technical differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, if I were to set up a local development environment on a USB drive for WordPress.org (self-hosting), how should I approach storage requirements for both the WordPress files and the local server tools like XAMPP or LocalWP? Would the storage needs differ if I used WordPress.com’s managed hosting instead?

You can’t compare a localhost installed wordpress.org with the wordpress.com platform. using wordpress.org you have to do everything yourself; if you choose to host your on the wordpress.com platform, we take care of everything.

Again: we can’t help you must head over to wordpress.org and take in their documentation about localhost installation.
