What the f**k is with the little bell?
-
What happened to the old activity notification symbol, the little speech balloon that lit up bright orange in the upper right side of the screen so you could see clearly when you had a reply or a follow or whatnot?
Why has it changed to a lame holiday knock-off where only the minuscule dot of a bell clapper lights up orange so that you have to lean in close and squint at your screen to see if anyone’s replied to your comment on Norwegian cat carving?
Are you people getting drunk during brainstorm sessions at WordPress? It’s not working. Change it back.

PS: The new, bright white “Create a new post” pencil and plus sign button is doubly obnoxious and breaks up the serenity of the layout. We all know how to add a post if we want to, we don’t need a food pellet bar to hit like a rat in a cage.

Try boulder.
Are we in kindergarten? What’s with the giant, oversimplified buttons and images? I feel like I’m trapped in a giant Speak and Spell.
Ever see the movie Idiocracy?

FWIW-The bell icon is standard in other web/phone apps, like twitter, for showing that you have a new notification.
-
And also, FWIW, it seems the bell icon is currently only present in the New Dashboard. Once you are elsewhere on the site, the notification icon returns to the comment bubble, at least so far.

Welcome to the new “enhanced” blogging experience – yet another rock in the road
So true. It’s shame to see how they worsen the experience of the desktop users to give the mobile users a “first class experience” as they state in one of their blog posts.
-
Thank you for the feedback. I would like to collect all the positive and constructive feedback that I can. I will try to note some of the things you’ve written here too.

That’s right.

There was only time for one commentator, apart from yourself. How was that useful and welcoming of feedback. -

@grahaminhats, I’m sorry to have been so abrupt. I don’t have anything really specific to add at this time, but I did reply there and wanted you to know I liked some of your feedback and tried to take notes on it and some I cannot change. What I can do myself is try to do my best to collect constructive feedback where and when it’s provided.

These changes are just dreadful – designed to appeal to the tablet user at the expense of the desk top blogger. All recent (so called) improvements are about removing functionality and bringing the experience down to the lowest common denominator. Why not leave the platform structure as it is for serious desktop use and develop an App for tablet users to download.
This new statistics page delivers absolutely no improvement. -
apetcher, hello :)
Neat ideas for changes to desktop things are coming in the future. These are only the first of a lot of changes. Working through any bugs found and posting constructive feedback in a positive way is the best thing you can do to help right now. I see that you have posted your opinion many times in various threads already :) and I can see that you aren’t pleased. I’m sorry you don’t like the changes so far. I understand change can be hard, and what I can do to help you right now is to collect what constructive feedback I can find.

@designsimply
This isn’t a matter of adapting to change. This is negative feedback about about ill considered and badly implemented change. If you don’t pay attention to, and report upon, the negative as well as the positive, then you are only dealing with half of the issue. -

Sorry to be grumpy.
Change is good if it delivers improvement and progress but these changes do not represent either. Functions have moved or gone missing and the statistics are no longer as comprehensive. It seems that WordPress software is confused and there are several different data streams and ways off accessing screens and menus. It is a dreadful mess and these changes have compounded the issues. -
