What to do if my transfer was denied

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a WordPress Premium account and I am trying to transfer the domain to 1and1. I got the transfer code in the email and followed the appropriate steps, I then even logged back on to Store–>Domains and accepted the transfer. I then got an email from 1and1 a few days later saying the change of provider had been rejected. I logged backed on to Store–> Domains and accepted the transfer again, but it is still not going through and every time I return to the Store the “Accept Transfer” button is there.

Any clue why this isn’t working?

    Hi there,

I don’t see anything on our end that would block that domain transfer, unless the changes to your domain contact details you mentioned in your other support thread went through. As I mentioned in that thread, changes those details can lock your domain for 60 days so it can’t be transferred.

If you’re sure your domain’s contact details haven’t changed, please let me know so I can continue investigating this for you.

In the meantime, you can point your domain to another hosting provider by changing the name servers: Change Name Servers

    Hi there,
It doesn’t look like those changes ever went through, we were never changing the domain registrant’s name, but rather the Technical and Administrative contact’s name and email addresses. Would that have an effect on the 60 day lock?

However, I just looked and all names and emails are still the same so I am assuming no changes ever actually happened. The domain registrant, technical and administrative contacts are the same as they were when I first logged on to access this blog to edit.

I am not sure if changing the name servers will allow me to do what I need to, because I have to use an FTP client through my new host to build the website and since the domain isn’t transferred correctly, it isn’t responding.

I am just confused as to why none of the changes seem to take. I have clicked “Accept Transfer” and it will re-appear minutes later.

Thanks for your help with this!

    Hi there,

I’m sorry for the trouble with this. I’m checking with my team now to see if we have more information about why this domain transfer didn’t go through. I’ll let you know as soon as I have an update from them.

In the meantime, changing the name servers will point your domain to your new host and allow you to make the changes you need to your site there. Your new host can tell you what name servers your domain needs. If you let me know what those name servers are, I can check to see if we can set those for you on this end.

    Hi there,

Can you please check with 1and1 to see if they have more information about why the transfer was rejected? (Sometimes other domain registrars don’t like the special characters in the transfer authorization code — if that’s an issue, we can generate a new code for you to use for the domain transfer.)

    Hello,
I checked with 1and1 and they didn’t have any information as to why the domain transfer was rejected. They suggested that the request to transfer be cancelled and re-initiated. Thus, yesterday they cancelled the request and then through 1and1 I attempted to transfer the domain again.

I received a new code and input it during the process and late last night was asked to accept the transfer and I did. However, I have not logged back on to WordPress to go to Store–>Domains and accept it there as that was where the problem kept reoccurring.

I can look into the name servers, I am unfamiliar with those accept for when I initiated the transfer it asked me if I wanted to use 1and1 name servers (and I said yes).

I am hoping this new request with a new code will go through, I am hesitant to log on to WordPress.com and accept it though. What do you suggest?

    Hi there,

I can see in our system that the domain transfer is pending, so everything is working on this end so far. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you. :)

You don’t need to accept the transfer on this end to make it work. Normally, a domain transfer has 5-day waiting period. If you don’t do anything, the transfer should finish after that period ends. That “Accept transfer” button here at WordPress.com is just meant to bypass that waiting period, but if you don’t click it the transfer will still go through. Since that button was giving you trouble earlier, I’d recommend waiting for the transfer to finish by itself.

If for some reason the transfer doesn’t go through after that waiting period, you can reply here to let us know and we can keep investigating it for you.

    Hi there,
It looks like the transfer has gone through. Having some slight problems with our email but I think that is because the MX name servers changed and I need to update those for our email provider.

However, our website hasn’t changed and the domain is still listed under Store–>Domains. If I want to update and change the website using FTP, how should I proceed?

Are you still hosting your site on WordPress.com or are you hosting it elsewhere now? If you are hosting it here, you can access your site at http://cistn.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ . If you are hosting elsewhere, you should check with your hosting provider for instructions on how to access your files.
