What to do with WordPress.com blog after moving to WordPress.org
-
I started a new WordPress.com blog at the end of November (marcmgraham.wordpress.com).
Last week I decided to move my blog to self-hosted WordPress.org (marcmgraham.com).
I deleted all my old posts in marcmgraham.wordpress.com except for one saying the site had moved. I had two ping-backs point to a post that now generates a 404. I posted comments to both their sites saying this page has moved. Is there a way to redirect all 404s to the home page for my old blog or should I just delete the old blog?
Thanks in advance for you help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No way to redirect the old posts (.com is locked), I would delete the blog after a month or two.

Do NOT delete the blog. Simply set it to “private” and keep the search epiders out then you will then have a backup blog.

As we can easily export and import contents on wordpress.com blogs I think setting the blog to “private” and creating a backup blog you can keep current is worth considering.
Also, did you know that when a page 404’s you can can deleted from Google’s cache? http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/03/21/how-to-remove-data-from-googles-cache/

I agree with timethief, set it to private and don’t worry about it. I won’t hurt anything and gives you a backup blog just in case you need it at some time in the future.
