What upgrade do I NEED?

I want to upgrade to a more advanced plan, but I am confused about which one. What I will be producing is family history narratives going back about 15 generations. No requirement for family tree or any genealogical database support. Mostly it is text I am writing but there are some images and some links to original sources. I need to be able to make a table of contents and footnotes, I use the details block extensively and for images slide show is useful. I also use call out quotes when there is something of special interest. There are other blocks that might be useful but I do not know if they are premium or not. Backup would be useful, story might be useful too. I have tried to use template twenty twenty three and it tells me that that template, although marked FREE, uses some premium things, I do not know what those are and therefore I do not know what to upgrade to or even if I need to upgrade yet. My audience is very small — cannot imagine it will ever be more than 10 people. There is no business involved. I want to use WP so my people can read while I continue to develop and I can publish about once a week. We are all old and basically just want to read in an experience similar to reading a book or a series of articles. In the future, I want to add another family to a different WP site. I have the text for that in a word processor and don’t know how I want to re-format it yet. Ideally, I would like to know if I can do all I want to do in the free version until I feel confident about going to Premium. If the blocks I need are available, I don’t think I need to use a theme. And then, how do I de-activate the theme????
