The blog linked to your username and appearing in the OP above is a free hosted wordpress.com blog. This is a WPMU wordpress multiuser blogging platform. Here all upgrades are done by Staff and we are running on 3.4.1

So just in case you aren’t clear on my answer, it does not matter to you which version of software your free hosted wordpress.com blog is running on as Staff do all upgrades here. For greater clarity I recommend reading the differences between free hosted wordpress.com blogs and wordpress.org installs for self hosting > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

It does matter to me which version I’m running on. I’m trying to buy a book on using WORDPRESS and I want to buy one that reflects the current version.

I repeat it’s totally irrelevant if you are refering to the free hosted blog here that’s devoid of any blogger created content > http://nursinghomewatchdog.wordpress.com/
If however, you are referring to another site how would we know that as you have not posted a link to it? If you have not read this then please do so now as I suspect you are referring to w wordpress.org install and are posting to the wrong support forum. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Note: The books on wordpress are focused on WordPress.org and include diddly squat about wordpress.com hosted blogs that’s relevant and meaningful and up to date. That’s why I dumped the ones I had into the recycle box.
If you are referring to learning wordpress.com blogging on the bottom of your Admin page you will find a link to the Learn WordPress.com blogging Tutorial prepared by Staff. http://learn.wordpress.com/
The support documentation is all found at the Support link http://en.support.wordpress.com which is also on the bottom of your Admin page.
