What will happen to my links if i buy domain upgrade?
-
Hello, I’m not sure if this has been asked already.
My blog is http://kawaiiroom.wordpress.com and I am thinking of upgrading with the domain feature sometime in the future. But I am wondering, what will happen to the links of tags I created (for example, I have texts that link to http://kawaiiroom.wordpress.com/tag/xxxxxx/) Do i need to change it manually, or does it redirect?

oh okay thanks…so for example, I have now http://www.kawaiiroom.net, but people still type http://kawaiiroom.wordpress.com in their browser, they’ll still be redirected?
Thanks a lot~

Both URLS will lead to the same blog, and if http://www.kawaiiroom.net is mapped to http://kawaiiroom.wordpress.com, “http://www.kawaiiroom.net” is what shows up on their browser’s address bar.

However, you should be aware that should you ever move off WP.com, your INTERNAL links will not work. Naturally, you’re booted from the global tag and category pages, but additionally if you’ve linked to your own blog posts, those links will not stay on your blog when you move.
If, say in Post A you link to http://kawaiiroom.wordpress.com/Post-B and you subsequently change your URL to http://www.kawaiiroom.net,/ that’s fine, that’s all well and good. The problem comes when you move off WP.com to an independent host. Then all your links of format http://kawaiiroom.wordpress.com/Post-B will point back to your WP.com blog, not to your new one. And of course all links from other people to posts of format http://kawaiiroom.wordpress.com/Post-B will not go to your new blog.
These are some of the reasons why it’s best to make that domain switch very early in a blog’s life. The earlier the better. Then all your links just work no matter what.
