What will happen to the old links if I upgrade the domain name of my blog?

  Hi. I’m thinking of removing wordpress from my blog URL (that is: going from example.wordpress.com to example.com). Before I do that, can anyone tell me what will happen to the links? I’ve got multiple links on social media to my blog, will they still work after the domain is example.com? How about if someone types example.wordpress.com to the browser, will he/she be able to find the blog? I’m aware of the possibility having multiple domain pointing to my primary domain. Thanks for your help.

  Hi Sanna,
  Links to your old blog URL will automatically be redirected to your new domain.

  A kind of similar question related to links:
  I’ve published a post but I would like to change the published date. The link to the post has a date on the URL and I’ve posted the link to several places in social media… If I go and change the published date 1) will the blog post URL automatically change? 2) will the old links in social media still work? Thanks for the advice!

  1) Yes. The date in the URL will change.
  2) No. The old links will be broken and result in a “That page can’t be found.” type of error.
