What WordPress IS and ISNT suitable for

The title says it all really. I’m interested in the long-term plans for my blog, as I can see it evolving to more of a magazine-esque site than a blog. I’d like to know people’s opinions about what WordPress is capable of becoming, and what it absolutely shouldn’t be used for.

    Fire away!

I think you need to define your terms better. A referential blog is still a blog, it’s just not a personal journal.

    WTFluff I’ll bite.

    (1) What a wordpress blog shouldn’t be used for is for advertising, as a spam generator, or as link bait to drive up hits on blogs the same bloggers have established at other blog sites. In fact the blog will be “discontinued” if you violate this rule.
    (2) What a wordpress blog shouldn’t be used for is to emulate or extend the scope or social community of a myspace blog, or livejournal or well, … you do get the picture, right?
    (3) What a wordpress blog should contain is actual content written by the blogger(s) in question as opposed to scraped material and video embeds of cats on treadmills or photos of large breasted women.
*LOL* remember you asked for it.

Hey, the vid of the shrimp on the treadmill is proving very popular, thankyouverymuch!

    lol.

louse101: i think you should elaborate what exactly are your long-term plans with wp – what kind of blog do you plan to set up etc because we could put up a list of what wp is and isn’t suitable for and we may still not be able to answer your question. and how is wp getting to be more magazine-esque?

Awww TT… bit hard on the cats ;)

louse101 – I think you need to ask at http://wordpress.org/support if your intent is a blog on your domain.

It can be used for anything.

I have used WordPress for more than simply creating a standard blog. My site was favourably reviewed by a national UK magazine – check out the review here – http://lansdownhockeyclub.wordpress.com/2006/10/04/website-goes-to-press/

I find WP a very flexible friend and would highly recommend it.

    LHC.
