what you’d think would be simple changes – fonts, colours etc
-
Hello all, i have had great success in the past here with one problem I had about the width of my blog. Im crossing my fingers for a painless solution from the helpful members here again :D
i have a site: http://www.ihavenoexpectations.com and am new to css .
it’s beyond me why wordpress has made simple things like changing the font on your blog so labour intensive. i tried using the type kit fonts but found it a convoluted, irritating experience with no access to standard fonts and ultimately couldnt get it to work.
Is there a way to change the fonts using the css?
All i want is to change the text on my blog and the sidebars on the right to arial, and perhaps be shown how to alter the size of the text. also id like to change the link and visited colour from blue/purple to varying degrees of grey and figure out how to alter the rollover from being bright red.
AND, if anyone wants to be a SUPERSTAR…you’ll note my banner doesnt fit across the screen anymore (after i widened the blog) is there anyway to override what wordpress tells me is my maximum width for my banner and put in a wider one? it’s these small things that irritate me no end.
thanks in advance for ANY help, really i do appreciate it.

You can change some font attributes using style codes without bothering to get the CSS upgrade. This works for me.
<p style="font-size:125%;line-height:130%;text-align:left;">That crazy dog we adopted blah blah</p> -

@edwinridout & dickiebo:
No it’s not fine: the right margin is a lot wider than the left (104 px instead of 20, to be precise). In other words, the image doesn’t end where the sidebar ends.@jw:
a. Yes of course you can make all these changes.
b. WP reserves them for the CSS upgrade to earn money.
c. What do you mean by “change the text”? Main body, titles, or everything?
d. If you’re using Firefox, start by installing the Firebug and Aardvark add-ons: they help you examine your page and identify the appropriate selectors. Try to figure out the simpler ones first and we’ll be back for more. -
thanks guys/
and panaghiotisadam: yes the margins are wrong….and i cant figure out how to allow wordpress to let me put in a wider header. (glad someone can see my problem here)
change the text: i mean…just the written text. so..i dont mind the font titles of the posts..but the actual text that i type in the body of each post. and the text of the side bar on the right.
ok i will install these add ons and see what i can do. any help in the mean time would be fantastico too :D

thanks time thief. in your post under this part: (4) Changing font style (families) and color throughout the whole blog by CSS editing
you mention it’s possible but don’t go into any specifics about how to do it?
iv had a look through the css and as far as i can tell it’s a mine field of font code. iv tried playing with it but no love.

So, to get you started:
To change all the elements that use Georgia instead of Arial, add this to your CSS:
body,input,textarea,.page-title span,.pingback a.url {font-family: “Helvetica Neue”, Arial, Helvetica, “Nimbus Sans L”, sans-serif;}
To change the color of all links, add these:
a:link {color: #000000;}
a:visited {color: #000000;}
a:active,a:hover {color: #000000;}The six zeros mean pitch black: replace them with the hex numbers for the hues you prefer. Color palettes and hex numbers here:
http://www.december.com/html/spec/color.htmlAs for the header image, try this first:
#branding img {width:1020px;}
(I’m not sure this will work – try it and we’ll see.)

ahh. sorry for the late reply i havnt been able to get online much lately.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. you’re a hero. i havnt had a chance to try the header yet but will soon :D
now that i’ve got my font the way i want, may i ask how i go about making it slightly smaller? it looks a bit novelty sized at the moment :D
thanks again!

you’re like my css fairy! thank you so much.
i tried the width of the header thing, it seemed to work (yay!) the only problem now is the menu bar, underneath it doesnt come all the way out..so it looks likes theres a white rectangle missing on the right:

see what i mean? any suggestions? :D

PS You should start trying Firebug. I’m not a fairy, I just examined your header with Firebug then checked the original CSS of 2010 to find the relevant section.

Yes – my bad. And I had forgotten you had used the code hallluke had given you here:
http://ihavenoexpectations.wordpress.comTry deleting #access from that code, deleting my previous suggestion, and adding this:

hmm…sorry to be a hassle. i feel bad. but..
that has seemed to arrange my stuff a bit funny and not really resolve the problem…
some of the side bar text now sits over the images.
