what’s next

I’ve had an account for some time, but haven’t used it. Can I have more than one site at a time? If I decide to upgrade, will whatever I’ve done come along? If I upgrade, can I have more than one site?

I have a couple of blogs already. Can they be transferred, or would I have to recreate the existing content? I already have a domain; can I use WordPress there?

I looked at BlueHost, but there are far too many options. Is there a recommended set of options for a simple site?

    Is email supported?

Sorry for the many questions, but there’s a lot to consider.

  • Hi there,

Can I have more than one site at a time?

You can have as many sites in your account as you want, yes.

If I decide to upgrade, will whatever I’ve done come along?

Yes. Upgrading won’t in any way affect the content on the site. It will just enable the additional features included in your plan.

If I upgrade, can I have more than one site?

All our plans are per-site only, so if you want more than one upgraded site, you’ll need to buy a separate plan for each one.

I have a couple of blogs already. Can they be transferred, or would I have to recreate the existing content?

There’s no need to transfer anything. If you want to upgrade either of your sites to a paid plan, just go to My Sites ->Switch Site and select the one you want to upgrade. Then go to Upgrades ->Plans to apply a paid plan to the selected site.

Once you complete the purchase you’ll have access to the paid features, but your site’s visitors won’t even know that anything has changed, and subscribers will still see your new posts in their Reader/email.

I already have a domain; can I use WordPress there?

If you already own a domain you can either transfer it to WordPress.com, or you can leave it at your current provider, and just connect it here using our domain mapping option.

Domain mapping is free for an unlimited number of domains in all our annual plans, while every annual plan includes one free domain registration or domain transfer for the first year. From the second year onwards you’ll pay separately for the domain’s renewal.

I looked at BlueHost, but there are far too many options. Is there a recommended set of options for a simple site?

If you go with another host like Bluehost, you’ll be using the open source version of WordPress made by the community on WordPress.org. That’s something completely separate from WordPress.com, and is a bit more technical – you’ll need to do your own maintenance, software updates, SEO, security, etc. All stuff we take care of for you here on WordPress.com.

If you just want a simple site like the two you currently have, where you can just focus on your site content rather than the technical aspects of web hosting, then staying with us on WordPress.com is the better option for you.

But you can find a comparison of the two “versions” of WordPress here so you can make an informed decision (Bluehost is one of the providers we recommend if you do choose to self-host your WordPress site, by the way).

    Is email supported?

    It is :)

We offer a Professional Email service on WordPress.com as a paid add-on to your plan, and if you want a full suite of collaboration tools you can also buy a Google Workspace subscription directly from us.

Additionally it’s also possible to connect an email account you create at another provider to any domain you have hosted with us. Detailed info on the available options here:

Sorry for the many questions, but there’s a lot to consider.

No need to apologise. Answering questions is what we’re here for :)

Let us know if you have any others.

    Hi @swolfearch,
If you already have websites on other hosting services, please share a links to these websites and we will see what can be done to transfer them to WordPress.com.
