What’s the dif?

before I start assuming too much.
what’s the difference between WP free and WP personal
I believe the ads are gone now.
and I figured I got a domain – but is it really mine, do I own it or am I just renting it from WP?
I notice this long string of numbers attached to every file now https://name000000000.files.wordpress.com/2023/03/00000pin-3.png
prior it was https://name.files.wordpress.com/2023/03/pin-3.png
if I own the domain shouldn’t it be
or perhaps https://name.com.files.wordpress.com/2023/03/pin-3.png
what am I not getting here?
thanks

my too good to be true detector should have kicked in, course we live in an age of untruthfulness and slight of hand. For now I will have to make due, and learn as many lessons and skills while here.
Can you explain or solve my other questions?

The other questions being about the Personal plan vs. a free plan and your file/media URLs?
If so, with the Personal plan, besides the removal of WordPress.com advertising on the public-facing side of your site, you get 6GB of storage space, as opposed to 1GB on the free plan, support by email directly with WP.com’s support staff rather than having your queries post to the community forums. You also can register a custom domain and the cost of registration will be included in the first year of your upgrade plan; after that you’ll renew your domain registration and your upgrade plan separately.
As far as “renting” a custom domain, in effect you own your domain for as long as you pay for/renew it. If you stop paying for domain renewal, there’s a grace period before it is released by the registrar to the public and then it can be purchased by anyone. This is the same regardless of whichever domain registrar you choose to purchase your domain from. You can read here about what happens to a custom domain purchased on WPcom during expiration https://wordpress.com/support/domains/domain-expiration/
About media files on WP.com, they keep the underlying WP.com address for Media Library links even when you have a custom domain. The only exception is any site on the Business or Ecommerce plans after they’ve installed a custom theme or plugin. Files uploaded prior to upgrading to one of those plans still retain their original WP.com address. More on that here: https://wordpress.com/support/media/#obtain-media-url
IDK why you are getting a long string of extra numbers on your media files like your example 00000pin-3.png. If you upload a media file with the same name more than once, WPcom will append a number at the end of the file name, like pin-3-2.png. Is that still happening for you? Would you be willing to link to an actual file in your Media Library so Staff can check it out?
