whats the dif? custom menu or parent pages
-
I am new to wordpress.com and am creating a static site with pages only. So far I have two pages that show up as tabs in my header. But now I am contemplating creating a custom menu. I am unclear as to the difference between parent pages and custom menu. Seems they do the same thing. Can someone please clarify?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

First off, without using the custom menu, not all themes here will show child pages as dropdowns. Only about maybe ten or so. The custom menu offers a lot greater flexibility since you do not have to set parent and child status. Any page can be made a dropdown off of any other. You can also add categories, tags, individual posts and custom links to custom menus that you cannot with the standard menus.

Thanks for your reply. I hear what you are saying about the custom menu providing more possibilities and functions. I am using the theme Under the Influence and did manage to make dropdown child pages. I also tried creating a custom menu, but found it a bit complicated for me right now.
I feel a bit more comfortable proceeding with parent-child pages for now. Will I be able to reassign them to a custom menu in the future? Will that be too problematic?
