What’s the difference between mapping and domain registration?
-
My renewal is almost up and I have to pay for both. Can’t I do without one of them?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can buy the domain from somewhere else, “domain registration,” and fail to attach it to your blog. But if you want to attach a domain to your blog, you must both buy it AND attach it “domain mapping”. And the cheapest way is to do both of those things through WordPress.com, as that way the domain registration itself only costs $5.

Thanks, but I’m a bit confused since each is asking for $14.97 even though they’re both with wordpress.com.

Mapping is to attach the domain to your blog. Registration is to buy the URL. It used to be that mapping was $10 and registration came with mapping and was $15. I guess things have changed? Try doing registration first and see what happens.
