Hi,
A free WordPress.com blog offers 3GB of storage to upload images and documents.
The free WordPress.com plan allows to upload only those file types: jpg, jpeg, png, gif, pdf, doc, ppt, odt, pptx, docx, pps, ppsx, xls, xlsx, key.
However, you can use third-party image storage services (e.g. Flickr) to store photos online and then simply embed them on your free WordPress.com blog’s posts. Same strategy applies to documents, audio and video embeds too.
Your posts/pages (texts) and comments are not counted in storage space calculation.
If you want more storage on your WordPress.com site, you may buy a paid plan: https://en.support.wordpress.com/space-upgrade/
Hope it helps.

You can put thousands of pictures on a web site here – however your 5mb pictures burns through storage space quickly and is a waste of space and bandwidth as well as annoys visitors with the slow load.
You should optimize your pictures for web display
